A. Z. Ansari
Intersectional Identity Section Editor
A. Z. Ansari is the Intersectional Identity Section Editor. In addition to their role in Outlier, they currently work at GMU’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education as the Classroom Project Coordinator/Facilitator. This role has allowed them to engage the broader community in conversations about how issues arising from diversity manifest in the university’s various communities while also connecting to larger systems. As such, working on Outlier is thrilling since it aims to facilitate these necessary conversations within the LGBTQIA+ community.
They expect to graduate in May 2018 with a B.A. in Government/International Politics and English with a concentration in Cultural Studies. They are genderqueer, Muslim, and an avid fan of all things Star Wars.
Dominic Fiedtkou-Leonard
Culture, Art, & Lifestyle Section Editor
Dominic is a senior at George Mason University graduating in May 2016. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Cultural Studies and a minor in Psychology. His academic work focuses on understanding individuals and groups in relation to their communities. He currently serves as the Art & Photography Editor at Volition. An artist himself, he enjoys writing poetry and prose as well as practicing traditional film photography. Dominic is gender-fluid and proudly identifies as a queer person of color. He is eager to collaborate with Outlier contributors and staff to produce a one-of-a-kind publication.
Evan Baines
Domestic News & Advocacy Section Editor
Evan Baines is Outlier’s Domestic News & Advocacy Section Editor. Originally from Orange, Virginia, he is a sophomore at George Mason University majoring in Government & International Politics and minoring in Criminology, Law & Society and Legal Studies. He grew up following the same sex marriage movement, which sparked in him a love for law and policy. He is excited to spend his time with Outlier to tell the stories of those who feel silenced and to show the world why he is proud to be a part of the LGBTQ community.
Hannah Warner
Global Affairs and Human Rights Section Editor
Hannah Warner is a current junior studying Global Affairs and with a minor in Economics. She is the section editor of the Global Affairs and Human Rights section of Outlier Magazine. As a former leader of a GSA at an international school, she is passionate about global LGBTQ issues. It is her hope that this publication will help shine a light on chronically overlooked issues facing the global LGBTQ community.
Al Raines
Content and Layout Editor, Web Manager
Allison Raines goes by Al, and they are earning a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Writing + Rhetoric from George Mason University in May 2016. Along with their work for Outlier, Al is the director of content for The Rival at GMU. For three semesters, Al worked as a prose + poetry staff member for Volition. Al is gender fluid and pansexual, and they spend most of their time writing, editing, and reading. Al is determined to use their editing and content management skills to make Outlier one of the best publications ever, not only at GMU but in the greater DMV area.
Devin Stewart
Director of Photography
Devin Stewart is a GMU art major working towards her BFA degree, concentrating in photography. Before her 2018 graduation, she never expected to be photographing for a powerful publication such as Outlier Magazine. Her photographic work mainly consists of architecture and landscape. She desires to utilize this great opportunity to do two things: grow as an artist, and use her talent to speak on LGBTQ+ issues. Being African-American, female, and lesbian presents numerous challenges. This issue of Outlier Magazine will serve as a platform for her to discuss delicate issues with sophistication, and facilitate representation especially within the Black Community.
Batel Yona
Photographer, Photo Editor
Batel Yona is a senior at George Mason University, majoring in Environmental & Sustainability Studies with a concentration in Business and Sustainability. She is a freelance photographer, and hopes to work as a conservation photographer for a non-profit organization after she graduates in May 2016. Through working with Outlier, she hopes to advance her photography skills by working on a project that she feels very passionate about. As a straight ally to the LGBTQ community, she hopes to use her skills to bring a voice to marginalized communities.
